Our Education Practices

The Dunedin Public Art Gallery provides wide-ranging and successful education programmes during both term time (for visiting school groups) and school holidays (for children and family groups).

Term time programmes
Term time programmes for visiting school groups are offered under the Ministry of Education’s Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom initiative (LEOTC). These are led by a trained teacher and provide a range of programmes designed to meet the needs of school students from new entrants right through to the senior levels of secondary school. All programmes involve a guided look at works on display and many have a practical workshop component in the Gallery classroom and resource notes for follow up activities. Some visits will also make use of film footage from the New Zealand Film Archive. Visits are tailored to fit in with your timetable, class level and curriculum needs. Allow two hours for programmes which include a paint workshop.

Most visits are free but there may be a small charge for workshop materials or as an entry fee for large-scale exhibitions.
