SARAH COVE

Constable talk

LUNCHTIME TALK ON JOHN CONSTABLE: A bit of slap and tickle. Sarah Cove, London Conservator, and founder of The Constable Research Project will discuss the techniques that Constable used when painting his Brighton works – ‘slapping’ on paint and ‘tickling’ it about with the point of the brush handle to create movement. The Gallery’s Constable work Brighton Beach c1824-26 in the downstairs Collection exhibition World View is a perfect example from this period.
