Fabric Art

Where Did You Get That Hat? Level 1-3
Look at the hats people are wearing in artworks, view historic film footage of hat fashion and play a game with an assortment of hats. The workshop involves students creating amazing fancy hats for cut out figures.

Felt Bugs        Level 1-4
A felt spider sits on a wool web looking at insects on fabric leaves.

Fabric Flower Garden        Level 1-4
Use felt and other material to make a beautiful flower garden.

Pirate Portraits        Level 1-4
Shiver me timbers. It’s time to use mixed media to create some rough and tough pirates!

A Passion for Fashion        Level 1-4
Discover changes in fashion over the centuries through looking at artworks and viewing film footage. In the workshop your students can design their own elegant fashion for a cut-out figure using lots of accessories including a pet with matching fashion. The visit ties in well with an education programme at the Otago Settlers Museum.

Smart Wearable Art        Level 1-4
Get inspired by watching big screen edited video footage from the Wearable Art Awards followed by a collage workshop where students ‘dress up’ a cut-out or drawn figure. This will tie in perfectly with a school wearable show.

Korowai        Level 1-4
Folded paper Maori cloaks come to life with feathers and fur, and Maori designs sewn in wool.

Wild and Woolly Landscapes        Level 2-4
Painted landscapes pictures gain a new layer of texture as features such as grass, trees, fences and the sun are added using brightly-coloured wool and large sewing needles.
