Toys and Games
Look at historic film footage and artworks to find out about recreational activities in the past. Hands-on activities, including playing with toys from the past make this a fun learning experience. Choose from the workshops below. This visit ties in well with an education programme at the Otago Settlers Museum.

Children at Play        Level 1-4
Children are playing with toys or playing a game. The emphasis is on active body shapes.

Toy Cars        Level 1-4
Make toy cars from junk materials. $2 per student.

Block Cities        Level 1-4
Students in small groups use blocks and a range of other materials to construct amazing toy cities. With this workshop the only thing you take away are photographs.

The TV Monster        Level 1-4
The TV monster sits in the corner while through the window children can be seen playing outside.

Puppets        Level 1-4
Learn about the history of puppets and make your own hand puppet.


A cut–out figure is attracted by the wonderful display in the toyshop.

Scattered Toys        Level 3-4
A pile of toys is scattered over the floor.

Toys, Toys, Toys        Level 3-4
A range of toys float in and out of the picture plane.

Throw Away Toys        Level 3-4
Loads of unwanted toys are taken to the dump.
