friends events

The Friends run a range of events over the year including special tours, talks and lectures.

These events are an excellent opportunity to meet fellow art enthusiasts and raise funds for the Gallery. We welcome your support.

MARCH 20 WED 10.30am COFFEE MORNING:

Join the Dunedin Public Art Gallery curators Lucy Hammonds and Lauren Gutsell as they talk about the exhibition, New Networks: Contemporary Chinese Art. The talk will be held in the exhibition’s Resource Room on the first floor. Everyone is welcome.

APRIL 17 WED 10.30am COFFEE MORNING:

Due to unforeseen circumstances, our speakers from Hereweka Garden have had to move the date of their talk until later in the year. HOWEVER, we have had a ‘yes’ for this 17 April date from artist Metiria Turei: A Talk about the Astronesian relates to her latest exhibition ‘Tūruapō’. In the presentation of the exhibition project on display until 22 May at as gallery in the Webb Farry Building 79 Stuart Street, Metiria Turei has used film and photographic image to emphasise the performative textiles activated by the body, which are used to recount a future history that centres Maori as Astronesians, navigators of space in the past and in the future. Everyone is welcome.

MAY 15 WED 10.30am COFFEE MORNING:

A LIFETIME IN THE MAKING. Tony Williams, goldsmith and jeweller, will give an illustrated talk on his 50-year career in jewellery making and the recently published book on his work. There will be the opportunity to purchase copies of the book Tony Williams: Goldsmith, which was published in 2018 (cash only, no eftpos available). Everyone is welcome.
