friends events

The Friends run a range of events over the year including special tours, talks and lectures.

These events are an excellent opportunity to meet fellow art enthusiasts and raise funds for the Gallery. We welcome your support.

MARCH 20 WED 10.30am COFFEE MORNING:

Join the Dunedin Public Art Gallery curators Lucy Hammonds and Lauren Gutsell as they talk about the exhibition, New Networks: Contemporary Chinese Art. The talk will be held in the exhibition’s Resource Room on the first floor. Everyone is welcome.

APRIL 17 WED 10.30am COFFEE MORNING:

HEREWEKA GARDEN RETREAT owners Anna Cooke and Peter Moore will talk about their trip to the more remote parts of China, and their beautiful garden at Hoopers Inlet. They share a love of plants; a passion that is evident in the diversity seen in the garden. Initially, several hundred rhododendrons, flowering cherries, magnolias and maples were planted, interspersed with large trees and herbaceous perennials, and over the years the garden has expanded to include even more varieties of plants. A recent development is a little valley with a Gondwana planting theme, including palms, cordylines and tree ferns. Everyone is welcome.

MAY 15 WED 10.30am COFFEE MORNING:
A LIFETIME IN THE MAKING. Tony Williams, goldsmith and jeweller, will give an illustrated talk on his 50-year career in jewellery making and the recently published book on his work. There will be the opportunity to purchase copies of the book Tony Williams: Goldsmith, which was published in 2018 (cash only, no eftpos available). Everyone is welcome.
