Rooms found only in the home

22nd Jul 2017 - 23rd Oct 2017

Sensitive, funny and wry, Marie Shannon’s photography and moving-image works present contemporary art as an intimate and immediate occupation, relevant and closely connected to her everyday life.  Her images cast light across what it means to make art; to engage with critical and creative processes, and to understand these from a personal point of view.

This exhibition considers the intersecting spheres of Shannon's practice, seen through works drawn largely from the Dunedin Public Art Gallery collection and the artist's archive.  Bringing together works from the early 1980s through to 2016, Rooms found only in the home presents an opportunity to consider both the history and current concerns of this important New Zealand photographer.
