Fabric Stencil Printing

A Workshop With Jane Groufsky

Sunday 19 May | 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

A hands-on introduction to fabric stencilling to create a textile print led by visiting curator and textile practitioner Jane Groufsky. This technique involves cutting designs to create stencils and then blotting ink through the stencil onto the fabric to create a pattern. To celebrate the opening weekend of Margery Blackman: Weaving, Life Jane has tailored this session to explore Margery-inspired modernist designs.

Jane Groufsky is one of the co-curators of the new survey exhibition Weaving, Life on prominent Ōtepoti figure Margery Blackman. Jane holds the position of Curator Social History at Auckland Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira, and outside of her curatorial work is a textile practitioner with an interest in printmaking and embroidery.

All materials provided - we will supply a plain tote bag for participants to print on and take home. This workshop is designed for adults, but suitable for ages 8 and older with guardian participation. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy in.
