Introduction to Intaglio Printmaking

An intaglio technique was often used by artist Marilynn Webb and involves carving fine lines into linoleum so the image can be inked into the carved line, rather than a relief style, to create prints.

In this hands-on introductory workshop to intaglio engraving led by printmaker Kyla Cresswell, you’ll learn the intaglio technique to create your own work using non-toxic and fume-free Akua ink.

All materials provided. This workshop is designed for adults, and suitable for ages 14 and older.

Kyla Cresswell is a printmaker based in Ōtepoti. As a student at the Dunedin School of Art, Kyla learned printmaking under Marilynn Webb. Kyla’s work explores the physical impact of the elements on the environment as well as the consequences of human occupation of the land. She has exhibited in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan and Canada and her work is held in private and public collections around the world. In 2023 Kyla was awarded the William Hodges Fellowship, a 12-week residency, through the Southland Art Foundation.
