Laboratory of Special Graphic Forms #2

CANCELLED

Saturday 26 November | 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

SORRY – THIS WORKSHOP IS CANCELLED

In this block printing workshop with visiting artist Emily Floyd, you’ll experiment with wooden and metal type to create graphic posters. Typefaces include bi-lingual Linotype produced by the Museum of Printmaking Aotearoa; speculative anarcho-feminist Kesh Alphabet by Ursula K. Le Guin and mid-century fonts produced by Moscow-based laboratory VNII Polygraphmash institute.

Emily Floyd’s text-based sculptures and pedagogically inspired works combine formal concerns with an interest in the legacies of modernism.  Her work engages a wide range of disciplines and endeavours including public art and social activism, design and typography, literature and cultural studies, community participation and public education.  Intersecting public space with carefully considered design, the artist creates bold spaces for public engagement and interaction.

Floyd is the Dunedin Public Art Gallery Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa International Visiting Artist for 2022 and will be in Ōtepoti throughout November 2022 delivering events in her exhibition Keeping it Complex, Keeping it Connected.

This workshop runs for 1.5 – 2 hours and all materials and light refreshments are provided.
