Reflecting Back on Mauka

A walking talk with Conor Clarke

Saturday 11 February | 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join artist Conor Clarke (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Kuri) for a morning walk to the summit of Hereweka. Throughout the walk Clarke will discuss the ways whenua is present in her lens-based practice, with particular focus on the group of works currently on show at DPAG. These works explore the relationship between the artist, whenua and the lens, with Clarke’s ancestral mauka of Manakau and Tapuae o Uenuku reappearing throughout them.

Meet at the carpark on Highcliff Road near the track entrance and please carpool if possible. The walk is expected to take an hour return, allowing time for stopping and talking along the way. The track to the summit is steep. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, weather appropriate clothing and bring a bottle of water.
