Superstring Paper-Cutting
with Motoko Kikkawa
Saturday 4 November | 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Suite 2023 contributing artist Motoko Kikkawa guides participants through creating their own paper-cut artwork.
In this hands on session, Kikkawa will share one of her signature paper-cutting techniques, using multiple copies of the same image, cut intricately like looping string and layered, to create a visual 3-dimensional effect.
Motoko Kikkawa is an artist in Suite 2023, a biennial exhibition of Ōtepoti Dunedin based artists Kikkawa’s exhibition My Sky presents abstract interpretations of an immersive skyscape in three different forms – drawing, moving image, and a digital game. Kikkawa’s drawing and painting works are known for their intense detail and intricacy, but her drawing process is organic and instinctual – a stream of consciousness, where one line informs the next.
This workshop is suitable for adults, and children aged 8 years and over (with guardian supervision). All materials will be provided. This activity will take around 2.5 – 3 hours to complete. Participants are welcome to leave once they are finished.
