Madonna to Modern

Women of the Collection

26 May 2007 - 29 July 2007

A walk around this circular gallery and down the ramp to the bottom is a walk through five hundred years in the representation of women in the Dunedin Public Art Gallery’s collection. Along the way idealised, always beautiful faces and bodies and virtuous attitudes will look familiar; but look closely and you will see subtle changes.  It is perhaps in the modern era and at the hand of women artists that you will see images of woman become more real, and her beauty and outlook become something of her own creation.
