Artfall #2 is out now

12 May 2026

We are very excited to be launching issue two of Artfall — the Dunedin Public Art Gallery’s biannual magazine — this month.

This issue features an in-depth interview with Michael Zavros on his exhibition Michael Zavros: Meet the Zavros’s, alongside a substantial piece on the recent gift of more than 400 contemporary artworks from Jim Barr and Mary Barr to the Gallery’s collection, told in their own words.

Readers will also find interviews with Michelle Taiaroa and Taiaroa Royal, descendants of H.K. and Tini Taiaroa, and contributors to the recent exhibition H.K. Taiaroa: ‘Kua marara hoki ngā mana o tōna kaha ki runga i te katoa’.

In addition, we present insights into the Gallery’s latest publication, Te Ahikāroa — a book celebrating our collection in all its many forms. Robert Sullivan, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Poet Laureate, and a contributor to the publication, speaks with us in Artfall about his connections to the Gallery and the South.

The magazine is, of course, also full of installation photography and details of many of the other projects and activities that have kept us busy over the past six months.

Copies are available through the Gallery shop.
