Kia Kaha Te Reo Māori
1 September 2020
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori
Māori Language week is celebrated from 14–20 September this year and Māori Language Day is 14 September. This day commemorates the presentation of the 1972 Māori language petition to parliament.
Māori language week is an opportunity to encourage all New Zealanders to become familiar with te reo. This year the focus is Kia Kaha Te Reo Māori (Let’s make the Māori Language Strong!)
What can I do?
Why not take part in the Dunedin Public Art Gallery’s Thursday evening quiz night on 17 September? Test your te reo abilities as a team (introductory level te reo). Five players in a team, maximum of ten teams $5 entry fee. Name your team - and book by phoning 03 474 3249.
Fun prizes and the team who wins the most points receives a super prize!
Your MC is the dynamic Karyn Paringatai (Ngāti Porou), long time promoter and teacher of te reo. GREAT FUN! GREAT PRIZES! Cash bar. AND you will learn some handy new kupu (words)!
Noho ora mai, Lynda Cullen
