ARTPOST #21

all of my lovers are immigrants...

25 August 2020

Wrapped up in Clouds
AYESHA GREEN (Ngāti Kahungunu, Kāi Tahu)

Starts Saturday 29 August

Every two years the Dunedin Public Art Gallery presents an exhibition, or series of exhibitions, that highlight some of the city and region’s most innovative contemporary artists.  In 2020 this exhibition has taken a slightly different form – expanding into a two-part exhibition series Suite 20/21.

This Saturday 29 August we are excited to open the first instalment of Suite 20/21 - Wrapped up in Clouds by Ōtepoti Dunedin-based Ayesha Green (Ngāti Kahungunu, Kāi Tahu). This remarkable new exhibition, which includes painting, drawing and mixed-media installation, sees Green exploring histories of recording and describing the landscape. Green has long been interested in colonial systems of knowledge and classification, and in this exhibition she redeploys and challenges elements of these disciplines within her own artistic practice.

Although the current uncertainties around Covid-19 alert levels have meant this exhibition will no longer have an opening, please take the opportunity to visit the Gallery from 29 August to see Wrapped up in Clouds and celebrate an exceptional artist working here in Ōtepoti Dunedin. For your own safety and that of our community, all visitors will need to comply with the Covid-19 level applicable on the day of your visit.

Please note: We have postponed the planned artist talk by Ayesha Green – please visit the gallery website or social media channels for an updated date and time.

Suite 20/21: Part two will be presented in March 2021, featuring Alexandra Kennedy, Octavia Cook, Ed Ritchie and Justin Spiers.
