Campbell Patterson

New in the Rear Window

22 July 2025

In 2017, the Dunedin Public Art Gallery acquired a series of three works by Campbell Patterson, titled Escape #1, Escape #2 and Escape #3. First exhibited in the exhibition call sick, which was held at the DPAG in 2017, these works record Patterson repeatedly climbing through the windows of three different buildings – his home in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, and his flat and the fellow’s studio, both in Ōtepoti Dunedin. Showing Patterson wearing only a pair of comically large grey trackpants, these works reflect themes within Patterson’s wider practice, including performance, humour, endurance, compulsion, and absurdity.

These works will run consecutively in the Rear Window Gallery over the coming months.
Screening schedule:
Escape #1: 21 July – 24 August 2025
Escape #2: 25 August – 21 September 2025
Escape #3: 22 September – 26 October 2025
