Guest Talk by Sean Burns
Editor of Frieze magazine
3 November 2026
As part of a visit to Aotearoa New Zealand that has been organised by the Office for Contemporary Art Aotearoa, the Dunedin Public Art Gallery is pleased to be hosting London-based editor and writer Sean Burns in Ōtepoti Dunedin in November 2026.
As part of this visit, Sean will give a public talk at 5.30pm on Monday 23 November in the DPAG Auditorium. He will draw on experience as an editor at frieze magazine and a freelance writer, sharing insights into how artists, critics, galleries, magazines, and writers work together at a time when the institutional and media landscape is shifting. Addressing how artists and writers can interact, draw attention to their work, and understand the different roles that shape visibility in contemporary culture, Sean will unpack how arts publishing and criticism operate today and reflect openly on mistakes, successes, and lessons learned.
