Imogen Taylor

From Behind

21 April 2026

We’re delighted to welcome Imogen Taylor back to Ōtepoti Dunedin for the opening of her new exhibition From Behind at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery.

Running from 2 May to 13 September 2026, From Behind brings together paintings produced between 2022-26, with many making their Aotearoa New Zealand debut in this exhibition. As curator Dr Kirsty Baker notes, these works “…playfully engage with the weight of art's histories. Turning her brush to the tenuous space between abstraction and representation, Taylor considers what it means to paint in the wake of the histories and the places that lie behind us.”

Taylor has a strong connection to Ōtepoti Dunedin, having held the prestigious Frances Hodgkins Fellowship at the University of Otago in 2019.

It’s a pleasure to launch this ambitious exhibition at the Gallery, curated by Dr Kirsty Baker and developed by City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi, before it tours to Wellington in early 2027.

Join us for a talk by Imogen Taylor and Dr Kirsty Baker on the opening day of the exhibition, 2 May, at 11am.
