MARILYNN WEBB ONZM.
Ngā Puhi and Te Roroa 11.09.1937 — 16.08.2021
‘I went out and pulled the sky down over me by a feather and folded myself up in the hills ...’One year ago, with great sadness, we acknowledged the passing of Marilynn Webb, ONZM (Ngā Puhi, Te Roroa). Now we take this opportunity to celebrate the remarkable contribution she has made through her life and artistic career. One of our nation’s most distinguished artists, in 2018 Webb’s contribution to art in Aotearoa was recognised through Te Tohu Aroha mō Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu, the Supreme Award of Te Waka Toi. As an activist, a teacher and a mentor, she championed printmaking and was driven by a deep connection to this whenua. Through her work she leaves a legacy of beauty and power for generations to come. Noho ora mai Lucy Hammonds Kairauhī Curator, Dunedin Public Art Gallery[Opening words courtesy of Cilla McQueen]
