Marilynn Webb
Her life's work in print
12 December 2023
Creating books is close to our hearts at Dunedin Public Art Gallery, and our newest publication Marilynn Webb: Folded in the hills is no exception. Developed alongside the exhibition, Marilynn Webb: Folded in the hills is a testament to the life’s work of this important artist. With essays from the exhibition curators, Lauren Gutsell, Lucy Hammonds and Bridget Reweti, and introduced by Dr Bridie Lonie, the texts dive deep into the richness and complexity of Webb’s work. These bilingual texts make a commitment to delivering Māori art history in both te reo Māori and English.
Inside the pages of Marilynn Webb: Folded in the hills , Webb’s works are accompanied by writing from two of Aotearoa’s most celebrated poets, Cilla McQueen and Hone Tūwhare, both of whom were close friends of the artist. They are joined by Ruby Solly and essa may ranapiri, who represent a new generation of writers whose words connect with the remarkable artistic career of Marilynn Webb.
Hardcover and fully illustrated, Marilynn Webb: Folded in the hills creates an important record of Webb’s career. We’re excited to bring Marilynn Webb: Folded in the hills to our readers and our gallery visitors – take some time to visit over the summer, the exhibition is open until 7 April 2024.
