As we settle in to the new year, navigating the challenges ahead, we want to reassure our visitors that we are working hard to create an inspirational gallery experience for you. At the current red traffic light setting, visitors are welcome at the DPAG, we just ask that you wear a mask, scan in and show your vaccine pass at the entrance.
The summer of 2022 is a unique time to visit the DPAG. All aspects of the Gallery programme – from contemporary art to historical collections – are reflections of our relationship with Paemanu: Ngāi Tahu contemporary visual arts. This is an historic moment for the institution, expanding the stories we tell while upholding the legacy of Aotearoa’s oldest public art collection.
There is also much to celebrate outside the four walls of the gallery. Joanna Margaret Paul: Imagined in the context of a room is currently on display at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, with the accompanying book selected for the 2022 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards longlist. For those of you visiting Te Papa over the next weeks and months, you’ll also recognise several works from the DPAG collection including Rita Angus’ iconic Self Portrait.
Kia noho haumaru, stay safe.
