Shireen Taweel
DPAG International Visiting Artist 2024
27 August 2024
On 1 September 2024, Shireen Taweel will arrive in Ōtepoti Dunedin to undertake a residency as part of the Gallery’s International Visiting Artist Programme. Based in Warrane Sydney, Taweel will use this residency period to continue a methodology of research, navigation and travel laid down in her most recent work. Exploring the histories and ongoing influence of celestial navigation technologies within Arab astronomy, Taweel will undertake a performative pilgrimage that will start in Ōtepoti and move north-west across the South Island. This journey will be documented in a new body of work as part of her exhibition 5364 nocturne – so watch this space!
If you want to learn more about Taweel’s multi-disciplinary research-led practice, check out her website: https://shireentaweel.com/
The exhibition Shireen Taweel: 5364 nocturne will open on Saturday 5 October 2024.
