The Dark Current

Angela Tiatia

12 November 2024

This weekend we open the doors to The Dark Current – a remarkable video installation by Angela Tiatia (Aotearoa, Australia, Sāmoa), which is being shown for the first time in Aotearoa New Zealand here at Dunedin Public Art Gallery.  Made over three years, The Dark Current is an ambitious production that weaves together Tiatia’s matrilineal heritage, Sāmoan culture, and Pacific myth-making to chart a new path forward.

The Dark Current was originally commissioned by The Ian Potter Cultural Trust under the Ian Potter Moving Image Commission for exhibition by ACMI (Australian Centre for Moving Image). Take a glimpse behind-the-scenes in this interview, kindly shared by our colleagues at ACMI: click here

Join Angela in the gallery on Saturday 16th November at 11am for an artist talk.
