Reviving the Print

The Grosvenor School of Modern Art

12 April 2025 - 7 September 2025

Printmaking, and in particular the linocut, saw a resurgence in Britain during the 1920s. It was an artform used by many artists to reflect the pace and energy of life in Britain in the interwar years. One influential force in this revival was the establishment of The Grosvenor School of Modern Art in 1925, by artist Iain Macnab. Drawing on works from the Dunedin Public Art Gallery collection, Reviving the Print explores the school’s methodology and its impacts through the works of teachers and students. Artists include Sybil Andrews, Lill Tschudi, Cyril Power, William Greengrass, Eileen Mayo, and Julia Mavrogordato.
