Variations on a Theme

Gordon Walters used the principle of repetition to refine a visual language that was spoken in geometric forms. Variations on a Theme brings together a focused group of works from the Gordon Walters Estate loan collection held at Dunedin Public Art Gallery to trace the development of aspects of Walters’ geometric language from preparatory collages to finished paintings. In doing so, the exhibition presents a close view into select forms and ideas that reoccur in the later phase of Walters’ career.
