In Suite 2026: Part 3, I rongo i tō tohu – Heard your message, Georgina May Young (Te Ūpokorehe, Te Whakatōhea, Irish, Scottish) employs materials and processes that depend on connections to flourish. Weaving, embroidery and raranga are all practices that rely on sharing time, knowledge and experience in order to build a strong foundation. Her exhibition celebrates whānau, te taiao, and matāuranga that has been passed down and cared for through generations.
Living and working in Ōtepoti Dunedin, Young exhibits nationally and internationally and is regarded as one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading contemporary textile artists. I rongo i tō tohu – Heard your message is the third exhibition in Suite 2026. Suite is an ongoing exhibition series that presents recent work by artists living and working in Ōtepoti Dunedin.
